A Message from the Board of Directors:

The Society of Municipal Arborists will soon be seeking a new Executive Director! After nearly two decades of leadership and service to the Society, our most recent Executive Director, Jerri LaHaie, has departed; please join us in wishing her well in future endeavors.

The SMA Board invites all members to help us reflect on the Society’s Mission, Vision & Core Values, with the goal of ensuring we successfully recruit a new Executive Director who can build on our prior successes. With your help, SMA will achieve its vision of a growing, thriving, and inclusive Society of engaged leaders.

Municipal Forestry has never been more important than it is today, and the Society remains focused on ensuring we help build and sustain the confidence, competence and camaraderie of our membership.

All of the important SMA programming, publications, and offerings remain on schedule. Our fabulous City Trees Editor, Michelle Sutton, continues to engage our Editorial Review Committee to ensure continued excellence of our flagship publication. Our Municipal Forestry Institute Planning Committee has already begun meeting in preparation for the return of this unique and vital training institute to Bowling Green State University later this year.

Our other hardworking committees continue to advance vital SMA matters and ensure a successful 2022 Annual Conference. In fact, now is the perfect time to consider adding your talents to SMA’s legacy by joining a committee.

Additionally our community of partners and affiliated organizations, led by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) and Arbor Day Foundation (ADF), have graciously offered their assistance and support as we work to bring on new leadership for our organization.

So please let us hear from you, the membership of the SMA, with your observations and thoughts. Please do not hesitate to reach out to our Executive Officers with any suggestions or feedback you may have!

          President – Sam Oludunfe

          Vice President – Earl Eutsler

          Past President – Scott Altenhoff

            Lead a SMA Town Hall

SMA has launched a series of free virtual meetings as a way for our members to remain connected and to address current issues of importance. The purpose of these meetings will be to connect our members virtually, to give them an opportunity to share their thoughts and ideas around a series of current topics. There will be a thought leader for each meeting who will moderate the conversation. There will be no presentation, rather the moderator will ask thought provoking questions and encourage discussion among the participants. The meetings will last 30 minutes.
